Johan Dahnberg is no longer in the band. Unfortunately he couldn't deliver as much as the rest of the band were expecting him to do. However, we wish him all luck in the future!

THE GRAND TRICK announce Samuel Smitz as the new vocalist of the band. Samuel will appear together with the band 19th June at Finspångsrocken in Finspång. He will also make the upcoming (forgotten?) album complete. Welcome on board!

Today Magnus recorded keyboard on 7 tracks on the new album. In a couple of days the remaining work will be done. As a final touch Daniel is going to record some percussion and Johan will start to record the vocals. Hopefully we can serve you with an audio clip very soon!

It will be a double CD box-set including more than 20 bands and it will be distributed worldwide through MUSEA and released by "Colossus Projects" (Finnish Progressive Music Association). STUDIO SUMMARY WITH PICS

The intention was to update this blog while we were in the studio. Actually we forgot due to drunkness and we are of course sorry and would like to apologize. But we still can contribute with the following summary of the recording progress:

TUESDAY
Well, here we go. On Tuesday last week we went to Stockholm. Nothing really important to mention about the trip. Well, we went by car. Stefan received a trauma when we had a coffee break at a gas station. An old lady had forgot to lock the door to the toilet, and Stefan happenend to see a little bit too much when he entered. On the remaining trip we were discussing "hembränt" which is a Swedish specialty. Daniel was mostly reading philosophy during the discussion and therefore he was in an other world at the moment. He thinks he is some kind of fucking Aristotle.

We arrived at the studio around 12 am. A nice cosy place not far from where Hells Angels have their headquarters. After a quick handshake with the studio engineerer Per, we started to prepare for the coming session. Tuning the bass and guitar. Assemble the drums and so on. Very shortly after our arrival in Stockholm we were actually in the process of happening. It feels like we were very efficient. First of all we recorded live and we were well prepared with our material. It is worth mentioning that the purpose with this recording session was to record some kind of foundation. We recorded drums, guitar and bass. Additional guitars, vocals and so on will be recorded in a later occasion. It was a great new experience to actually record on an analog tape recorder for audio applications, which makes the sound very warm and soft. Regarding the remaining recording progress we will record the rest in a digital way. When we are finished we will collect all material and mix it together. Mixing and mastering will maybe be handled by Real Music Studio, but that has not yet been decided. Anyhow, we finished about 5 songs in about 10 hours. Of course we were very tired after the session so we decided to just take it easy in the evening and had a relaxing time at Per's home. He has got a nice house just a little bit outside Stockholm, and he also got a lot of cats. Well, a couple of well deserved beers later we went to bed.

WEDNESDAY
9:30 am we left Per's home and was heading for the studio again. On the way we bought breakfast at a gas station. Sandwiches and coffee. Very traditional. Nothing new. When we arrived at the studio we switched on the equipment and started where we finished the day before. Actually the recording session so far contained no bad language or extreme violence since the session was surprisingly flexible. Well sometimes we had to clean Stefan's mouth with soap but on the whole we felt secured and could avoid a dismal atmosphere. During the day we finished about 5 more songs. Well, some songs demanded complements. Additional bass or guitar was recorded, but the drums were finished and Daniel got nothing more to do apart from drinking beers and barking at Jonas and Stefan if they were doing something wrong. We realized that we would be finished on Thursday and could go home to Linköping again. The studio was even booked on Friday.

In the evening we decided to check out the nightlife so we went to a place where they had live music. First we did not noticed that it was a live band since it was too much people blocking the view of the stage. Anyway, the spreading of rumours occurred, and people were talking about us like rock stars. Very funny since we are nothing but bums. Jonas proclaimed for the curious people that we were helping Mauro Scocco recording a new album. Mauro Scocco is a discarded artist from Sweden. Some fucking brat became interested in "the famous people" and was asking us to come with to Spy Bar. Spy Bar is a disgusting place where most of Sweden's celebrities hang out. We went by cab with the guy, but when we approached Spy Bar we started to regret our decision. The clock was too much and we knew that we had to take care of business next morning. We bought some food and took a cab back to Per's place.

THURSDAY
Still some additional work to do in the studio, but almost finished. Jonas and Daniel needed more beers and started drinking the first thing in the morning. Stefan was suppose to drive later on and had to avoid alcohol. Most of the time during the day went to transform the analog tapes into computer files. While we were waiting we had a relaxing moment since there was nothing else to do except waiting. Finally we received the files on DVD's and we packed our things and went home to Linköping.

TGT on the road?

The Grand Trick has not appeared live for a while. And people might wonder why? Unfortunately we have had to say no to many bookers because of various reasons. In any case, the main priority has been to focus on songwriting for the new album. When it is ready we will definitely get back on the road again, and we can expose that we have started negotiations with a booking agency that set up shows all over Europe. We might as well come to the U.S since there is various bookers that are interested. And of course we will do shows in Sweden too.

Studio session postponed

The studio session has unfortunately been postponed until August. We have recognized that things in life do not always go the way we want them to. But who knows? Maybe we will have time to write the best song in the world while we are waiting for August to come. Oh we forgot, Tenacious D has already written it. Maybe TGT will qualify for the second best song in the world then.

She's On The Run

The lost recording "She's On The Run" will finally come out as a printed version. In a very, very near future (yes we are telling you the truth this time) it can be purchased via Record Heaven.

Next week we will start to record another masterpiece. It will probably be entitled "Dragons and fire in the night" Or? Pull your socks up, people! We are just kidding. But we believe a title may soon occur. "The Decadent Session", for instance, came up during a night in a jar of decadence, and Jonas and Daniel tried hard last weekend at a local nightclub to solve the problem of the yet undiscovered title of the next album. So far no success.

"Well this obviously doesn't work. We need more to drink. Inget snack!"

Somekind of report

Jonas Malmqvist, Erik Kurtson and Daniel Larsson will go to Stockholm, June 16th, without the rest of the band. The idea is that Stefan Johansson and Kalle Sellbrink are suppose to do their contributions in a later occasion. Probably the remaining guitars and vocals will be recorded in Linköping, Sweden. We will soon let you know the details. Also, we will let you know the details regarding mixing. We have a studio in mind that have done great mixing work through the years, but we have not yet decided. Are people really interested to hear about this kind of information? Well, it seems that some of you actually are. Remember, this is a blog, a perfect place for those who want to know what is going on behind the scenes.

Five-year anniversary

Ok, TGT has existed for five years. It has been a long journey and it certainly will continue with new adventures. There is nothing that can stop this band. Well, perhaps the end of the world? It has been a roller coaster ride but today we are stronger and better than ever, and in all kinds of business you learn of mistakes. But you shall not forget about the success that comes with hard work. That is what keeps this band going, and now it is time to put the band in a higher gear. It is time to deliver. Let us honour TGT on its anniversary. Cheers!
